Doug Isenberg gave a presentation on "The Growing Threats from Cybersquatters -- and How to Defeat Them" at MarkMonitor's New York Summit on April 24, 2018.

Doug's presentation addressed a variety of domain name issues important to trademark owners, including a record number of domain name dispute filings under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP); the impact of new gTLDs; clever tricks employed by cybersquatters; the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); and more.

"Domain name disputes are on the rise, cybersquqatters are getting smarter, the expansion of the domain name system is creating new headaches, and the EU’s forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation -- the GDPR -- is only going to create new opportunities for cybersquatters," Doug told attendees.

Doug Isenberg Discusses Magic and the Law on the 'Magic Word Podcast'

Doug Isenberg spoke at length about intellectual property law for magicians as a guest on The Magic Word Podcast with Scott Wells. The interview followed a recent presentation that Isenberg gave at the Magi-Fest convention in Columbus, Ohio.

The podcast offers in-depth discussions with magicians and others in the magic community, as well as coverage of important and interesting developments for professional and amateur magicians. Wells, the host of the podcast, is a professional magician and a four-time winner of Houston's "Magician of the Year" award.

In the interview, Isenberg discusses the importance and limits of copyright and trademark protection for magicians and offers suggestions about how magicians can protect their works, especially in light of threats posed by the Internet.

Isenberg, an attorney, is the founder of The GigaLaw Firm and has been called "an international authority on Internet law" by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Doug Isenberg Quoted in Article About '.bible' Top-Level Domain

Doug Isenberg was quoted in an article about the ".bible" top-level domain (TLD) published by Religion News Service, "American Bible Society’s .bible domain policies restrict religious freedom online, critics say."

The article examines a controversy related to restrictions on use of the ".bible" TLD, which is operated by the American Bible Society.

The article also discusses an unusual dispute policy for resolving ".bible" domain name disputes, which requires that panelists take a religious oath. Isenberg first brought this policy to light in a blog post in June 2016, "The DotBible Litmus Test for Domain Name Dispute Panelists."

"I've been a domain dispute panelist for a long time and I've never been asked to sign any type of statement before about my religious beliefs, or political beliefs, or anything other than a requirement that I can be neutral and impartial in reaching a decision," the article quotes Isenberg as saying.

Isenberg serves as a domain name panelist for the World Intellectual Property Organization, (WIPO), the Forum (formerly the National Arbitration Forum), the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC), and the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre (BCICAC).

Doug Isenberg Delivers Presentation on Copyright Law at Magic Convention

Doug Isenberg delivered a presentation on copyright law for magicians at the 2018 Magi-Fest convention in Columbus, Ohio. Magi-Fest is one of the largest magic conventions in the United States, with more than 800 attendees this year.

Doug's presentation, on January 26, 2018, focused on how magicians can use copyright law to protect their craft, especially on the Internet; limitations of copyright protection for magic; and ethical issues related to copyright law and magic.

Doug discussed a number of important copyright law cases, including a dispute brought by the famous magician Teller against a YouTube user who had uploaded videos that Teller alleged infringed his rights. Although the court ruled in Teller's favor, Doug explained the importance of the case, including the court's statement that "magic tricks are not copyrightable."
