Doug Isenberg Speaks at Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association

Doug Isenberg is speaking at the next meeting of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) on February 25, 2021 (Oman time).

Doug is part of a panel discussion titled “Domain Names Dispute Resolution Practices” along with representatives from countries representing country code top-level domains (ccTLDS) in Papua New Guinea (.pg), India (.in), Serbia (.rs), and Vietnam (.vn). His presentation will focus on the overall issue of domain name disputes, as well as how various countries in the Asia Pacific region handle the issue, many of which have adopted the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) or a variation thereof.

APTLD works as the forum of information exchange regarding technological and operational issues of domain name registries in Asia Pacific region. Also, as an interface to other international Internet coordinating bodies, APTLD fosters and elevates participation of AP ccTLDs in these global fora, as well as acting in the best interest of APTLD members in global Internet policy making process.

Doug Isenberg to Speak on 'Domain Name Disputes in the Age of Coronavirus'

Doug Isenberg is speaking at a continuing legal education (CLE) event titled “Domain Name Disputes in the Age of Coronavirus” on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 12 noon Eastern Time. The event is organized by the trademark committee of the State Bar of Georgia’s Intellectual Property Law Section.

Doug recently covered this same topic in a UDRP case study video on his YouTube channel, “Coronavirus-Related Cybersquatting.”

From the announcement for the event:

“The number of complaints filed by trademark owners under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) hit an all-time high in 2020, thanks in part to the coronavirus, which encouraged cybersquatters to engage in new types of deceptive activities on the Internet, directed not only at healthcare companies but also at businesses in just about every industry. Meanwhile, the UDRP service providers, including WIPO, more than met the challenge in serving trademark owners as they moved their own operations to remote locations. In this CLE presentation, Doug Isenberg, Larry Nodine and Brad Slutsky will discuss why and how cybersquatters are taking advantage of the coronavirus, including by examining specific cases under the UDRP, and how trademark owners can identify and fight problematic domain names today. For those who have never had any experience with the UDRP, the presentation will include an overview of the process as well.”

This event is free for Section members, and 1 hour of general CLE credit is pending.
